Hiking Club for Middle Schoolers

You are welcome to join our group for middle school-aged children. Come hike the trails! Every month the hike will be an adventure to explore the natural world. It meets the second Saturday of each month in a different preserve.
The club is organized by volunteer Regan Stacey, who has children in the LOL school district.
Environmentalist/artist Regan Stacey currently runs the Tree Collective, a Lyme Land Trust program for teens. She owns Awaken the Forest Within, a mindfulness-based practice that helps [re]connect people to nature for the betterment of themselves and the earth.

Join the Lyme Pollinator Pathway for two activities to learn the value of wildflowers and how pollinators benefit when you plant native flowers.
10:00-10:30 – Seed Bomb Dispersal at Riverside Preserve with Sue Cope. Throw wildflower seed bombs that were made in June. Riverside Preserve is on Salem Rd. about 1/2 miles from the intersection with Rte. 156. Registration is not required.
11:00-12:30 – Pressed Wildflower Art Workshop at Lyme Youth Service Bureau, 59 Lyme Street, Old Lyme (LYSB) with Tanya Porcelli

The leaders will alternate each week between Sue Cope, Wendy Hill, Tony Irving, and Kristina White with Brady, canine guide. The walks are moderately easy unless noted. Bring a water bottle and dress for the weather.

Work Party to clear Debris in Mt. Archer Woods Ruins Area

Place: Meet at Mt Archer Woods parking Lot, Mt. Archer Rd., Lyme, CT

Please join us to help clear around the ruins in Mt Archer Woods. We have had barberry mowed on a few acres near the white trail, next to the ruins about a half-mile in. We need help to remove fallen trees and other debris to make it easier to mow next time and we need to clip or pull invasives along stone walls. Chain saws will be helpful. (Please bring protective gear). Bring loppers, clippers, and work gloves, shovels, and anything else you think will be helpful.

Fall Astronomy Observing Session

Come join us for a night of sky observing. With the leaves turning and the next new moon on the way, it’s time for us to turn our telescopes towards the East and welcome the new sights that herald the approaching winter sky. Come join us for dark skies at the LLT observing site. Dress for temperatures 10-15 degrees lower than the forecast to keep yourself comfortable. If you have a telescope bring it out. There’s plenty of space to setup, and cohorts will be happy to assist if needed.

Beebe Preserve – Canceled due to rain. Meet at the parking lot on Old Grassy Hill Rd. The easy 1-mile loop trail passes many stone walls and a mysterious large rock cairn. A side spur trail brings one to a viewing platform on a vibrant beaver pond.

Banningwood Preserve. Meet at parking lot on Town Street (Rte. 82). Full loop of the preserve beginning with upper red to Parkers Perch, down to Diana’s Field and following all of Yellow along the Roaring Brook before returning on lower red. About 1.5 hrs with some steep grades on the Upper Red trail.
