This week’s hike will explore John Lohmann CT River Preserve in Old Lyme led by Wendolyn Hill, Lyme Land Trust board member and Town of Lyme Open Space Coordinator. The walk is about 2 miles. When we arrive at the point, you will want to linger. The preserve affords magnificent views of Lords Cove and the Connecticut River. Bring a snack to enjoy while you take in the view.

Directions: From I-95, take Rte 156 north 2.1 miles to Coult Lane. The property is accessed from a trailhead located at 33 Coult Lane. Mt Archer RuinsBandA2Join us for this moderately easy walk in the woods. We will also do some light maintenance if it is needed. In April a group of volunteers cleared Japanese barberry, other invasives and debris from the ruins on the White Trail. We will visit the site. Parker Lord recently mowed it again. Bring heavy duty work gloves and light-weight clippers in case we see some invasive plants that need to be removed from  the walls and edges. Everyone is welcome.

This week’s hike will explore the White and Yellow Trail in Mt Archer Woods, led by Wendolyn Hill, Town of Lyme Open Space Coordinator and  Lyme Land Trust board member. The hike is a little more than 2 miles. Meet at the Mt Archer Woods Parking Lot.

Directions: Rt. 156 north to Mt. Archer Road. Left onto Mt Archer Road. Go one mile on Mt Archer Road (bear left up the big hill). The parking lot is down a long driveway on the left, the 4th long driveway after you start up the hill. Look for the stone post marker that has “Mt Archer Woods Town of Lyme” written on it. It faces the road, so you can’t read it until you are on top of it. (If you get to 100 Mt. Archer Road, you have gone too far).

Banningwood is a beautiful preserve with meadows, mature forests, cedar groves, and dramatic rock outcroppings. Roaring Brook meanders through it.

Boy Scouts from Troop 26 led by Eagle Candidate Brendan Wright recently built a camp and picnic site which includes a tent platform, two picnic tables with benches, and a fire pit with benches. We will check this out. There are a few rocky areas so don’t forget to bring your walking stick!

Join us on a cruise aboard  Adventure, the new sister ship of the RiverQuest, to view this miraculous display. Commentary about the birds and other wildlife, as well as binoculars (if you don’t have your own), will be provided by CT River Expeditions.

Wine and light refreshments are included.

Preregistration and prepayment required. The cost is $40 per person for Lyme Land Conservation Trust members, $45 for non-members. No children under 10. The boat leaves Eagle Landing State Park in Haddam promptly at 5:00 and returns in about three hours. If the trip is canceled because of inclement weather, refunds will be provided. Check our website if weather is questionable. Tickets are non-refundable after September 20. After that date, if we have a waiting list, we will use our best efforts to find a buyer for your ticket(s) if you need to cancel. No-shows on cruise day are not refundable.

Hadlyme Heritage Day: Celebrate! And Optional Guided Walk at Proposed Brockway-Hawthorne Property

IMG_6305 (1)Don’terkkerst let the weather forecast scare you. Come join us for fun and celebration. And bring your walking/hiking shoes if you plan to sign up for a guided walk of the proposed preserve.

In its 50th Anniversary year, the Lyme Land Conservation Trust has announced a fund raising drive to protect the Brockway-Hawthorne Property, 82 acres of ecologically key wildlife habitat in Hadlyme which will also extend walking trails in the area. The Hadlyme Country Market is hosting an effort to help raise funds for the Hadlyme Challenge Grant —An anonymous gift offered by a neighbor to match local residents’ donations in order to purchase the Brockway-Hawthorne Property. If everyone chips in towards preserving this property during this time, the money will go twice as far towards reaching our goal.

On Sunday September 4th from 10am-4pm, forty-five minute guided tours will be offered at the Brockway-Hawthorne property every hour on the half hour. Maps and information packets will be at the Hadlyme Country Market along with music and gifts for donors and tour participants. Tickets for a special raffle featuring a framed, numbered and signed Lori Warner print are already being sold at the Country Market with the drawing to be held Sunday at 4pm. PopCentric all natural Ice Pops will be there and a local Banjo artist highlighting the event. iCRVradio.com will be doing a live feed, interviewing members of the Lyme Land Trust members all volunteer board, dignitaries and celebrants. In its 50th Anniversary year, the Lyme Land Conservation Trust has announced a fund raising drive to protect the Brockway-Hawthorne Property, 82 acres of ecologically key wildlife habitat in Hadlyme which will also extend walking trails in the area. The Hadlyme Country Market is hosting an effort to help raise funds for the Hadlyme Challenge Grant —An anonymous gift offered by a neighbor to match local residents’ donations in order to purchase the Brockway-Hawthorne Property. If everyone chips in towards preserving this property during this time, the money will go twice as far towards reaching our goal.

On Sunday September 4th from 10am-4pm, forty-five minute guided tours will be offered at the Brockway-Hawthorne property every hour on the half hour. Maps and information packets will be at the Hadlyme Country Market along with music and gifts for donors and tour participants. Tickets for a special raffle featuring a framed, numbered and signed Lori Warner print are already being sold at the Country Market with the drawing to be held Sunday at 4pm. PopCentric all natural Ice Pops will be there and a local Banjo artist highlighting the event. iCRVradio.com will be doing a live feed, interviewing members of the Lyme Land Trust members all volunteer board, dignitaries and celebrants.
