Join Lyme Land Trust Environmental Director Sue Cope in Diana’s Field for a Spring Equinox bonfire (with marshmallows, of course!) This year there is a Supermoon due to rise at 540pm as well. With a little luck in positioning and weather, this will be a really neat wrap-up on winter! This event is weather pending.  Please RSVP to stewardship@lymelandtrust.org with a way to reach you in case we need to cancel.

Trailblazers walk- Jewett Preserve

Join us for this moderate walk in the woods entering on the yellow trail at the Jewett Preserve  and returning through Pleasant Valley in Lyme, led by Wendolyn Hill, Lyme Land Trust board member and Town of Lyme Open Space Coordinator.. We will look for signs of Spring. Perhaps we will hear wood frogs, the early harbingers of Spring. The hike is about 2.5 miles.

Inclement weather cancels.

Directions: Rt. 156 north to left on Macintosh Rd. (across from Beaver Brook Road.) The parking area is about 1/4 mile on the right.

Chestnut Hill Volunteer Work Party

Join us for a trail trimming and brush clean-up work party at Chestnut Hill Preserve in Lyme led by Wendolyn Hill, Lyme Open Space Coordinator and Land Trust Director. We have a chain sawyer. Volunteers are needed to help remove brush and to cut back saplings that are encroaching on the orange trail. Bring along heavy-duty gloves, clippers, loppers, and light-weight rakes. Don’t forget ear protection and a bottle of water. A snack will be provided.

The event will be cancelled for inclement weather or icy conditions.

Directions: Rt. 156 to Sterling City Road (either by Tiffany Farm or the Hamburg Fairgrounds). Go about 1 mile. Turn onto Sterling Hill Road. Chestnut Hill entrance is about 0.5 mile on the right. Parking is along the side of the road.

Join us for a walk on Groundhog Day to look for signs of whether the the groundhog has seen his shadow, as well as evidence of other animals in the preserves. We will walk about three miles in the Selden Creek, Ravine Trail and Brockway-Hawthorne Preserves  with an option to drop out halfway. First, we will hike about 1.5 miles to the impressive overlook above Selden Creek and back to the Joshuatown Road parking area. For those who wish to continue, we will walk another 1.5 mile loop in the Ravine Trail and the Brockway-Hawthorne Preserve. There are a few moderate hills. Everyone is welcome.

The walk will be led by Wendolyn Hill, Open Space Coordinator of the Town of Lyme and Lyme Land Trust Board member. Meet at the Selden Creek Preserve Parking lot on Joshuatown Road in Lyme. The parking area is on the left about 4 miles from Rte 156.

Inclement weather cancels. Wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for possible slippery areas. Bring a bottle of water. A snack will be provided.
