DESCRIPTION:Your news feeds might speak of a ‘planetary parade’ tonight. It is accurate that the planets will be in a relatively tight line from the sun itself at the eastern horizon just before sunrise Tuesday\, spreading out up and to the right. Of them\, Saturn will be the brightest and easiest to spot\, followed by Mars\, and a thin crescent moon. Next in line are Jupiter with Mercury nearby\, but they will be extremely hard to see owing to the Sun’s encroaching light and their closeness to the horizon itself. Neptune and Uranus will be out there\, too\, but will need a telescope to spot. \nThis post is FYI only. SUMMARY:June 28\, 2024 Astronomy Observing Session
DESCRIPTION:DATE COULD SHIFT BASED ON WEATHER– This will be our latest start of the year. As Leo and Virgo head towards a western exit\, the Milky Way is now arching across the eastern horizon. It will rise higher and higher in the sky all night long\, and each successive week it will rise earlier and earlier. Along with it\, Scorpius and Sagittarius prepare to steal the summer show. If the weather goes against us\, we will move the event to the closest clear night and notify you. \nWe have several different telescopes that are on display including a 14″ Schmidt-Cassegrain housed in a permanent observatory. Inside the observatory\, you can watch deep sky objects grow in detail and full color on a wall-mounted monitor. Public sessions are co-facilitated by one or more of our growing cadre of astronomy cohorts: Mark Borton\, Roger Charbonneau Jr\, Jon Dean\, Jay Drew\, Scott Mallory\, John Natale\, Lee Polikoff\, Parag Sahasrabudhe\, Mark Strollo and Alan Sheiness. \nUpon registration you will receive a link to directions and observing session guidelines. Young or old\, experienced or totally unfamiliar\, we look forward to exposing you to our uniquely dark skies here in Lyme. \nAnd if you have a telescope\, we encourage you to bring it out.
