SUMMARY:May 3\, 2024 Astronomy Observing Session
DESCRIPTION:DATE COULD SHIFT BASED ON WEATHER– Leo and its bright star Regulus dominate the sky due south. To the right\, the Milky Way is well down the western horizon\, not to return to the night sky until later in June\, this time in the east. Arcturus climbs in the eastern sky\, and we can once again “arc from the Big Dipper’s handle to Arcturus\, and spike from there to Spica”. \nWe have several different telescopes that are on display including a 14″ Schmidt-Cassegrain housed in a permanent observatory. Inside the observatory\, you can watch deep sky objects grow in detail and full color on a wall-mounted monitor. Public sessions are co-facilitated by one or more of our talented cohort enthusiasts: Mark Borton\, Roger Charbonneau Jr\, Jon Dean\, Jay Drew\, Scott Mallory\, John Natale\, Parag Sahasrabudhe and Alan Sheiness. \nUpon registration you will receive a link to directions and observing session guidelines. For questions or comments\, please contact us at astronomy@lymelandtrust.org. Young or old\, experienced or totally unfamiliar\, we look forward to exposing you to our uniquely dark skies here in Lyme. \nAnd if you have a telescope\, we encourage you to bring it out. The more\, the merrier. Just follow the guidelines in the pdf you receive when you RSVP. \nClear skies! \nThe Lyme Land Trust Astronomy Group aspires to inspire and pursue the advancement of knowledge of astronomy through public outreach programs including but not limited to observation events\, education programs\, and presentations about varied astronomical topics by our members and guest speakers. \nIf you like these programs and you are not currently a Lyme Land Trust Member\, please consider joining us using the green Become A Member link at the top of the LLT page.

SUMMARY:May 31\, 2024 Astronomy Observing Session
DESCRIPTION:DATE COULD SHIFT BASED ON WEATHER– Virgo is climbing higher in the southern sky along with its neighbor Corvus to the right (west)\, and Libra to the left (east). Around to the north\, the Big Dipper is upside-down high in the sky\, seemingly spilling its contents down onto Polaris.
