Due to social distancing, this walk is now a self-guided walk. Please tour the new signage on the Heritage Trail at Hartman Park on your own while following posted and current State and Federal safety guidelines. This new signage, in the form of illustrated panels, gives insight into the history and activity of the people who once lived here based upon the remnants left behind.
The signs enhance information included in the interpretive trail guide, “The Heritage Trail, a Walk in Hartman Park” Booklet, written by Marianne Pfeiffer in 1996. An updated 2015 version of the booklet is available online. Click here.
The signs were designed and illustrated by Wendolyn Hill, the Open Space Coordinator of Lyme. The signs were funded by the Eighmile River Wild and Scenic Watershed Committee.
The entire trail is about 3 miles long with options for shortcuts. For a shorter walk, it is recommended you skip numbers 5 through 8. There are not illustrated panels for them. Take the Park Road (purple) from 4 to 9 (take the yellow trail connector) and then follow the orange trail numbers 10, (8), 11, and 12.
Bring water and a walking stick. There are some rocky areas and moderate hill climbs.
